PLATE 01 / RESEARCH PERSPECTIVE
Hybrid wall with chevron bracing and curved steel dampersRedrawn from the supplied wall-panel reference: a 2400 mm cold-formed steel wall with four 600 mm bays beside a 1200 mm hot-rolled steel bay. The wall is 3000 mm high. Four diagonal braces meet side gusset plates at mid-height and curved dampers at the top and bottom center.HYBRID CFS–HRS WALLSTRUCTURAL CONFIGURATION2400 (4 × 600)12003000 mm10001000100001020304COLD-FORMED STEEL WALLHOT-ROLLED STEEL BAYREFERENCE GEOMETRY · DIMENSIONS IN mm

THE CENTRAL QUESTION

How can component mechanics, structural configuration, and uncertainty inform seismic performance?

Research approach

The research combines cyclic finite-element studies of dampers and steel assemblies with probabilistic analysis and optimization of seismic inputs. It spans portal frames, ductile braced frames, and hybrid cold-formed and hot-rolled steel wall systems.

Research perspective

The studies connect energy dissipation and configuration choices with performance assessment. The probabilistic wall study supports preliminary subassembly screening; it does not establish whole-building collapse performance.
